New Cosmetics Bill to Kill Small Business

Being a soap maker I am in the cosmetics industry. Recently I have been made aware that aside from my husband's architecture industry going belly up that now, the soap business I started 2 years ago may have to shut down. It looks like our family may be destined to wash windows the rest of our life (a noble profession I might add, but nevertheless, not a first choice).
This new bill being proposed threatens small businesses far and wide and the handmade industry. Maybe the founders of Etsy, Artfire, 1000Markets and such web companies could extend an arm to help us out. Here's a video link that will explain it all and a petition to sign to stop it.
If you like handmade, make sure we can continue to create and grow. Watch this informative short video from Donna Maria Coles Johnson explaining this new possible change in our freedom.
So are you mad? You want to fight it?

  2. Thanks for posting! I've been searching for, finding and commenting on as many soapcrafters blogs as I can, to keep this fight going!!! It's not over yet. We can band together, and be sure that ANY legislation regulating our industry is fair to small businesses! This one IS NOT! Thank you for your opposition to this bill- did you know your post is featured on www.opencongress.org? It is!! :) Mine was too.
    Good work!!

  4. Dear Desert SoapStone: It seems to tougher and tougher these days owning and opperating a small business. I congragulate you on your efforts to maintain such a business in this current economic situation in the U.S. today!
It must be difficult for your husband with his architecture business going belly up. With the laws changing and squeezing out small family owned businesses, we never know what we will end up doing. At least you have window cleaning! I have a friend that taught his children the art and the Lord just blessed that business and the window cleaning really drew the family together! I don't know your personal situation is, but maybe you could join together with your family (Mom, Pop, Brothers and/or Sisters)and build a Family business window cleaning? Just a thought as it worked so well for my friend,it was profitable and galvanized the family together to boot!
Bringing the family together in times like these is essential to surviving the times.
I wish you, your businesses, and your family the best as this all unfolds!
